On a journey at a convoy from Milford Haven to Devonport loaded with coal. On April 15, 1941, the ship was attacked by German airforce outside St. Ives near Lands End. Two bombs hit near the rear of the bridge and on the poop, and there was a fire in one of the rooms. One of the lifeboats entered the water, but before it got clear of the ship, Bolette capsized, and the whole crew got into water. Some got into the capsized lifeboat, others swam towards a fleet floating up. Those were rescued by an escort ship. Eight men perished.
